Excellent hole quality
Orbital Drilling™ has several advantages compared to conventional drilling that drastically increase the hole precision and strength.
The lower thrust force results in a burr less hole when drilling in metals. When drilling in composite materials the problem with delamination is eliminated. The higher thrust force in conventional drilling equipments also dulls the cutter point and the hole diameter increases, the cycle time lengthens and the hole finish worsens.
The Orbital Drilling™ method doesn’t only result in an unparalleled surface finish it also reduces chips induced damage in the material. The tools used with Orbital Drilling™ have a smaller diameter than the hole and produces smaller chips that are efficiently removed through a sophisticated airflow system. The efficient chips extraction also makes it possible to drill in closed sections.

Another area of concern that has been eliminated is metallurgical change in the material because of excessive heat. The cutter in an Orbital Drilling™ system has only partial and intermittent contact with the material. Together with the efficient air-cooling, the result is that no excessive heat is produced and metallurgical change is avoided.
